Pink Pig Loans
Pink Pig Loans is a secured lending specialist with a small team of staff looking after customers across the UK. They needed to share data across the business but it was all stored on the MD’s computer, giving everyone access to it.
They used old ‘POP3’ e-mail accounts, which were limited in functionality and prevented synchronisation across multiple devices. This made it difficult for field-staff to keep in clear communication during time-critical business dealings.
Different versions of software were used across different machines, causing compatibility issues. This resulted in many instances of using specific computers to complete specific tasks, hampering productivity and the speed of service delivery.
With no ongoing IT support, issues that could not be fixed in-house were left and ignored, further exasperating day-to-day operational difficulties. Without any remote access into the business, the MD had to be on the premises in order to complete work, resulting in evening and weekend working from the office.
THE METALOGIC WAY…
We immediately implemented Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials, which allowed central storage of all corporate documents. Remote access was enabled, allowing staff to work from home or other locations as and when required.
Centrally managed permissions ensured that users only had access to the data they needed in order to complete their job function. Management and financial data was now stored securely, accessible by the management team only.
As a company regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, best practices were implemented in accordance with their guidelines, which included preventing access to USB storage, such as portable hard disks and memory sticks. This ensured that company and client data could not leave the premises. Centrally managed anti-virus and malware protection ensured that all workstations were kept safe and secure from infection.
An ‘authorised software list’ was compiled and standardised versions of software installed to all machines. Compatibility issues were now a thing of the past, which meant that users no longer had to swap workstations to complete tasks.
E-mail and collaboration tools were provided via a Microsoft Office 365 subscription. Fully hosted Microsoft Exchange services provided large and synchronised mailboxes for all users, which could be securely accessed from multiple devices. Additional Office 365 features, like Microsoft Lync, enabled staff to be contactable wherever they were. Shared calendars enabled diaries to be managed effectively and efficiently.
Our managed IT support, with full preventative and reactive maintenance/support, ensures that IT problems are few and far between. When they do occur, we handle them quickly and efficiently, freeing up the staff at Pink Pig Loans to work on their own business.
